Makiki Valley Loop Trail

Makiki Valley Loop Trail  Beautiful and Peaceful... Looking for a short, beautiful hike in the nature? I would highly recommend Makiki Valley Loop- It is centrally located in Honolulu Area (Makiki) and it is relatively easy and short ( it will take you around 2 and a half hours to complete).  It is very easy to get to the hike: from Makiki St, you turn left onto Makiki Heights Dr (pass the park) and you continue straight into the parking lot.  Directions to the park   Entrance to the hike The picture on the right shows the entrance of the hike. It starts as a walk, and once you reach the restroom area, the real trail begins.  When you reach the bench, you can choose to continue  either left or right. If you would like some  “workout” start from the right side since it’s an uphill. The left side is more like a “walk” and less challenging. It is a safe hike, there are no ridges or ropes, and the path is relatively wide. Once you reach the bench area, the...

Lulumahu Falls

Lulumahu Falls A short and easy hike to a beautiful waterfall   If you are looking for a short hike to a beautiful waterfall, I would recommend Lulumahu Falls. It is close to town, off the Pali highway (parking is before Pali Lookout). If it is your first time going there, it's best if you join a friend who has done the hike before: the path is not marked very well, and you may get lost. As a rule of a thumb, follow the stream, it will lead you to the waterfall! It starts as a walk on a paved road along Nuuanu Reservoir. The entrance to the hike is next to a fence. Although it is a short hike (it takes around one to one and a half hours to complete) make sure you wear comfortable shoes, because at certain times, you have to cross the stream and the rocks are slippery.

Wiliwilinui Ridge

WILIWILINUI RIDGE A moderate hike with rewarding views of the ocean, mountain and city   Near the top of the ridge My friend Aryam was the one who first introduced me to this beautiful hike 4 years ago and I have returned several times after that. I don’t think I will ever get tired of hiking this ridge- every time  I see something different  and it feels like  a new adventure! It’s very easy to get to the hike- from Kalanianaole Hwy you take Laukahi road all the way to the top. There is a guard who will give you a parking permit (parking is limited since it is in the gated community of Waialae Iki). The hike starts as an easy walk, and it becomes more challenging towards the end. It’s almost 5 miles long, so it takes me around 3.30 hours to complete (if you run it or walk fast, of course it will take you less:) Along the hike you will see some pick-a-boo views of the city. Also, keep in mind it might be a little muddy (especially if it’s during the winter). Ove...
